Walking in the Spirit

One of the best and easiest ways to be obedient and be filled with the Holy Spirit is to simply walk according to the spirit. You may ask yourself well how do I do that? In proverbs 3:5-6 it states not to lean on your own understanding but in ALL your ways acknowledge the Lord and he will make straight your paths.

This first requires us to know who the Lord is and what his commandments are to be fully obedient. I would recommend you start walking in the spirit early on in your walk. The holy spirit is the teacher of men for all holiness.

James 1 states that when we meet trials of various kinds that we should rejoice and ask for wisdom on how to overcome the trial when we are faced with it. This is easily accomplished by asking the Lord what to do. Then DOING IT.

Ill give you an example, I woke up this morning and thanked the Lord for waking me up and asked for him to guide me and fill me with his spirit. I was then Instantly at peace and joyful and not full of anxiety or dread for the day. Remember we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. So we should NEVER have anxiety. Then after asking the Lord for his Spirit to be ignited in me. I ask him what HE wants me to do. I had plans in my mind for what I needed to accomplish, however, the Lord had different plans for me. I cancelled the work that I was supposed to do today and asked the Lord what he wanted me to do.

A small mental image of going to the Breakthrough club popped into my mind. I canceled my work for that day and asked my roommate if he wanted to come with me and what the Lord told him to do. He said that the Lord wanted him to go downtown! Full of peace and joy we got dressed and headed towards the bus stop. It was very cold and we tried to get behind a house to shelter from the wind and ended up missing the bus. We both thought to ourselves well the Lord must not have wanted us to take that bus.

I went inside to get out of the Cold and asked the Lord again what he wanted me to do. It came to my mind that I should get an Lyft to go to the Breakthrough club. I ordered a Lyft and we got picked up. The picture of the Lyft driver had this genuine joy about him. So when we got in the car I asked him if he loved Jesus! He affirmed that he did indeed love the Lord! This was further confirmation.

I evangelized to the driver and encouraged him to join a small group at his church to get a deeper relationship and fellowship with the members of his church. During this conversation I prayed to the Lord on the right things to say. Literally trying to Acknowledge the Lord in everything I do.

This practice fans the flame of the Holy Spirit inside of us and when we keep it going keep fanning the flame by asking him what to do we experience the Fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22, We get an overwhelming feeling of Peace, Joy and Love. Then we have extraordinary patience, goodness, kindness etc. We should not try and mimic this on our own but instead pursue the kingdom of God and Jesus in all we do and these traits will be gifted to us!

  1. My first comment! Thank you so much! Praise the Lord! Sometimes we can spend years and years seeking the Lord with only half our heart. If you dive in it mind seem overwhelming. However, how does someone become a great basketball player? They devote their entire life to it!
