Testimony on prayer!

This is a testimony I read off at church not to long ago!

I am a relatively new believer and was snatched out of the fire on 12/26/2021. A short testimony that I tell people is that I was agnostic my whole life and then started exploring spirituality in my late 20s. I started becoming interested in New age spirituality and the "One Source". This is basically a God of our own creation that you can meditate on and practice energy control and what amounts to witchcraft. I practiced with energy transference like "calm cool serenity" and had success with imbuing that emotional reaction into people and gemstones as a way to "bless" them.

This was spiritually satisfying for a short while and I even joined an online cult. However, my life did not improve and I started getting worse and worse depression and anxiety. Eventually several years later I picked up a bible in the hotel room that I was going to commit suicide in. I read a few verses and immediately started crying and feeling like a weight was being lifted off me. I gave my life to Christ that night and accepted him as my Lord and savior.

I was able to fully believe in the supernatural things that he did like resurrecting from the dead because of my prior experiences with the spiritual world. This experience completely changed me from wanting to mess around with spiritual power and egotistical ways to wanting to HELP people. This dramatic shift in what I DESIRED to do, just by accepting Christ into my life changed EVERYTHING.

If I can just believe and accept Christ into my heart and it FUNDAMENTALLY changes my DESIRES.... THATS GOD... not any of the esoteric powers that I was abusing.

Over the next few years, I started reading and researching the bible and becoming well versed. The most influential verse to my recovery from sin and the world was 2nd Corinthians 10:5. Which states that we should take EVERY thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

This opens up a goal to shoot for. The end of that goal is to have a wonderful relationship with the Lord above. If you allow him into your thought life and ask him to take away the negative thoughts, HE WILL. This builds up our faith as he instantly answers our prayers.

This also shows us that our prayer life can be many and varied. When I was going through my Christian 9 month program. I learned that St. Patrick wrote in his memoirs that he would pray up to 100 times a day at the tender age of 17. God gave him a vision and he was able to miraculously escape his enslavement walking several miles to find a boatman that took pity on him and helped him escape Ireland!

Knowing this I began a journey with the Lord where I slowly started praying more often. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Then over every meal. Slowly increasing it over time to the point where I could do little micro prayers in my head all day long. It became a habit! It made everything easier and completely cured any depression and anxiety that I had.

In Proverbs 3, it says To trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths!

Think of what it takes to acknowledge someone. It only takes a glance and a head nod. We sometimes have the common belief that prayer has to be on our knees for 10 minutes once a day. I think we should have a varied prayer life, just like we have varied conversations. Short prayers, long respecful prayers, simple looks upwards towards heaven with a mind of gratitude. Our prayer life does not have to be work, it can be a simple acknowledgement!
