Holy Ghost Setup

Part 1

Following the Lord is never an easy path, but if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will walk beside us and reveal timeless truths and let us experience the spiritual distractions and confusions to build up our discernment, giving us eyes to see.

This summer semester for me started in what seemed like a disaster. I ran out of money, and all the doors to income started closing down one by one. It was as if the Lord had plans that I could not see. There were no orders or nudges, just a constant reminder to trust in Him.

Looking back, starting in May, I was struggling to find quick work as all my prospects for an internship as a college student fell through. I found a job miles away on the south side of town, but the pay was abysmal, and I managed to secure another job as a van transport driver for a very small business. During training, there were red flags I saw, but I had hope that this position would allow me to spread kindness and encouragement to my wheelchair bound clients, toting them back and forth for dialysis and life-saving medical appointments.

After a quick 3-day training, I noticed that securing the wheelchairs, we were missing a shoulder belt, nowhere to be found, and not matching the safety requirements for the delicate people needing rides. The owner seemed not to care and even preached that safety is the top priority, yet all that seemed to be on his mind were dollar signs and power control over others. With this type of boss, I knew deep down, if I had to slam on the brakes and one of the sick people got hurt, I would be figuratively thrown under the van myself if a lawsuit were to be filed.

Instead of allowing unrighteous business practices, I made the hard decision to report them to the authorities and abandon the new job that would save me from homelessness. I prayerfully reported the company and began searching anew to find some way to make it through the summer. All this time crying out to the Lord for guidance, only to be reassured, "Be still and know that I am God.

I had been going around the city and praying for guidance in some of my free moments. I met a few people on the bus in spring whom I encouraged to pursue the Lord in their walk and seek assistance for the vices we all carry. One wheelchair bound man was very excited to be encouraged to seek out rehabilitation for his drinking and actively pursued it to the glory of God. Another gentleman I shared an energy drink and a cigar with one night on a park bench when his life had spiraled. This conversation ventured into occult spirituality and many futile attempts to reveal to him the all-powerful creator of the universe, the great I AM. Little did I know that a month later, they would be at the same shelter the Lord had destined me to be in.
