Working out with Jesus
Building a strong prayer life with the Lord can be compared to starting a workout routine. At first, examining yourself and confronting the faults the Lord reveals can be difficult and uncomfortable—similar to the initial soreness when you start exercising. But with consistent effort, such as establishing a routine of praying in the morning and at night, you begin to see results. After a couple of weeks, you’ll notice an increase in peace and joy in your life, much like the small victories you experience when you start seeing progress from working out.
However, our spiritual training has a purpose: we are running a marathon with the goal of growing closer to the Lord. To reach this goal, we must continue building spiritual stamina. This means praying more often, reading about God, and spending more time with Him. Over time, these practices become easier and more enjoyable because of the peace that comes from living in obedience to Him.
The ultimate goal is to love the Lord with all our heart, mind, and soul, and to be fully obedient to Him. This requires intentionality and discipline. We must go to war against our own thoughts, praying to make them obedient to Christ. As this becomes our habit, we find ourselves thinking about Jesus throughout the day. This shift changes our entire worldview, and as the Lord takes over more of our hearts and minds, we naturally become a positive influence on others.
The beauty of this journey is that the Lord does the heavy lifting. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. Our role is to surrender to Him, focus on His guidance, and intentionally put Him first in EVERYTHING we do. As we train to be holy and love God fully, we strengthen our spiritual "hearts," and in doing so, we align ourselves with His perfect will. The more we let Him work through us, the more we experience His peace and joy, making this a journey of transformation and growth.
